I think this is actually an LJ thing, but since I’ve more or less migrated to Tumblr I’mma do it here :)
1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
Got married. Hiked part way up a glacier. Sea kayaking. Cycling in Vietnam. Started eating blue cheese.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I managed most of them, and have a few new ones set - more on that on ChiGarden.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
One of my Canberra peoples had a cute curly-haired boy, and my cousin-in-law gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl :)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thankfully.
5. What countries did you visit?
New Zealand and Vietnam. A big year for travel!
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
… I honestly can’t think of anything more I could ask for. Wouldn’t say no to more savings or a house, but I’m working my way there.
7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
9/10/11 - gotta be the easiest wedding anniversary date to remember ever :)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I know I keep coming back to this, but organising a (relatively) low budget, fun and very true-to-us wedding. Lots of stress and lots of research! Also running 12km in City to Surf.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I haven’t kept up the habit of jogging regularly, and haven’t lost as much weight as I had hoped. Still much better than 2010 though.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Throwing up in the bathroom of our honeymoon suite in Vietnam and then going to the hospital there for blood tests was definitely not a high point. It was just a cold virus in the end though, so overall that’s not too bad?
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Upgraded my camera to a Canon 7D - so much love. Also my satchel/camera bag which looks nothing like a camera bag.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
The Boy, who looks after me and keeps me sane. My wonderful friends and family in general.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
No one that I know in person. The occasional story on the news.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Camera gear and the wedding.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My wedding, the wedding of a close friend just after. Traveling to NZ at the start of the year, and to Vietnam for our honeymoon.
16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
I Want to Hold Your Hand (Across the Universe version) - the song I walked down the aisle to.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. happier or sadder? Happier!
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, for once!
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer, though not by too much all things considered.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Exercise. Taking better photos of food. Photo shoots.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Reading wedding blogs D: Those things just suck up your soul and enthusiasm.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Lunch with my family, dinner with The Boy’s family, then curling up with a book and some Christmas lights at home.
21. What LJ Tumblr users did you meet [in person] for the first time?
None. Anybody want to meet up?
22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Does falling in love with my camera count?
23. How many one-night stands?
Not really my style.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Doctor Who, which I can’t believe I only started watching in 2011!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t like to hate people. I think I’ve managed to surround myself with only awesome people this year.
26. What was the best book you read?
I read so many books last year… I really enjoyed The Hunger Games. The biography of Steve Jobs was a good read too.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Been listening to an awful lot of The Black Keys lately. Also recently discovered The Paper Kites.
28. What did you want and get?
New camera. A lovely wedding. Lots of work.
29. What did you want and not get?
Reaching my goal weight. Any kind of winnings in the NYE lotto draw.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Could be just because it’s the last movie I saw, but I loved TinTin!
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 26. I worked in the morning, then went for lunch in the city with a friend. Went shoe shopping, then dinner with The Boy. Lovely simple day!
32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Reaching my goal weight. But hey, half way there is still pretty good.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Primary colours. Experimental (for me at least). Minimalist. Cotton.
34. What kept you sane?
The Boy, and my lovely friends.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I have a love/hate relationship with Miranda Kerr. It’s like she’s from a more beautiful alien species.
36. What political issue stirred you the most:
Support for gay marriage! I have to admit I haven’t been particularly good at keeping up with political issues aside from that =/
37. Who did you miss?
All my lovely Canberra peoples. And those who seem to have left Perth in a max exodus over the past few years.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
The new(ish) boyfriend of one of my closest friends… the fact that he’s made her so happy and is just right for her makes me happy <3
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
The little steps along the way add up - take the time to look back and see how far you’ve come. Take your time, do it your way, you’ll get there in the end.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I’m not good with the song lyrics. Something really happy and positive for the future?
