Tonight’s dinner: oxtail braised in sherry. Eating a tail sounds a little bizarre, and the recipe writer’s description of ‘gelatinous jus’ didn’t sound terribly appetising, but actually it’s very very delicious! Possibly because of all the fat and marrow. Still low carb though, so that’s something right?

I tried making strawberry jam from the recipe in Frankie magazine, which turned out almost perfectly except for me burning it at the last minute! It mostly tastes fine, but every now and then you get a bit of burnt flavour which reminds me of jam on toast. I’ll conquer jam making someday!

Inspired by a friend we visited last week, The Boy and I got ourselves a little coffee bean grinder and stovetop espresso maker. We tried it out for the first time today – we still need to get the hang of it (and some appropriately sized cups), but I think it’s going to be brilliant. I don’t drink coffee often as I usually prefer tea, but it’s just the thing on a rainy weekend morning. My knowledge of coffee is pretty limited but we got some 5 Senses Columbian Roast as I see it raved about often on Twitter, and because it had a very enticing description (kudos to you, copywriter).

We also managed to find ourselves the perfect green grass rug, which I’ve wanted ever since I saw this post on Color Me Katie and pictures in various interior design blogs since. I think it fits perfectly in our slightly geeky apartment, and feels so nice under your toes!

Aww, my birthday gift from my old Canberra buddies came in the mail today - what an awesome little parcel of stuff!

It was The Boy’s birthday yesterday! We celebrated by going to Restaurant Amusé for their amazing degustation. One of the best dishes was polenta, pea, chicken and egg topped with generous shavings of black truffle, served in a cute jar with lots of smoke. I love the drama!

Tonight’s dessert from a birthday dinner with my family at Nine Fine Food, which is in my opinion an odd name for a modern Japanese restaurant. Lovely food though, especially the black sesame icecream.
